BEGINNINGS

Born in Baroda, Gujarat. 1929 Comes to Bombay with his family. 1945 Worked at the film studios, Bombay. 1945 Later transfers to Karachi. 1946 Returns to India. 1947 Founder Member of Progressive Artists` Group, along with K.H. Ara, H.A. Gade, F.N. Husain, S.H. Raza and F.N. Souza, Bombay. 1951 Leaves for London. In England worked as Coalminer, Hospital Porter, Railway Porter, Hospital Mortuary Worker, Postman, Graveyard Mason and Carver. 1952 Worked as Photographer, Deptt., Indian High Commissioner?s Office, London. 1954 Became costume jewellery designer. Worked in silver gold and platinum for a Russian jewellery dealer. Also did freelance restoration of antique brass musical instruments. 1956 Started thirteen year stint of open-air shows of Green Park and Hyde Park, London. 1961 Visited USA and has shows in Germany, France, Spain and Italy. 1967-68 Again toured USA and had many exhbs. there. 1983 Returns to India. Lives and works in Murud, Maharashtra.
