BEGINNINGS

He was born in Tejhat, Rangpur District, Bangladesh. First Principal, Govt. School of Art, Madras. 1953 Nominated as the first Chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. 1955 President and Director, UNESCO Art Seminar, Tokyo. 1956 President, Nikhil Bharat Bangiya Sahitya Sammilani, Madras. 1962 Fellow, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. Two important commission works, Triumph of Labour, Madras and Martyrs? Memorial, New Delhi.

  • STYLE

    He was basically a realistic artist, well known for his monumental sculptures installed in the public spaces. He was also a painter of highest mark. Painted in the technique of the Bengal School.

Before he took over, there were only idol making craftsmen engaged in making artifacts with traditional designs for the foreign rulers.
